Recycling business gets a helping hand to meet EMS goals

FRC Group, an innovating social enterprise in Liverpool, recycles and reuses waste furniture and supplies social housing clients with modern equipment.  Directors were keen to get ISO14001 in place to meet social goals and meet specific requirements of clients and chose to use  BS8555, a British Standard which provides guidance on the phased implementation of an EMS.   The team taking it forward needed reassurance that they were on the right track, in terms of timings and tasks.  Although BS8555 is detailed and helpful in places, it can appear onerous.  We spent a few days over a couple of months helping  unpick what was needed and prioritising tasks, reviewing progress and providing advice and reassurance.   The objective for FRC was to be externally verified and achieve Stage 3 of BS8555, which they did comfortably.
